Monster Inc
Drawing is not considered a crucial skill in most schools here in Indonesia, a typical Indonesian child would draw two mountains with a sun in the middle, a road leading right to the middle of the mountain, rice paddy on one side and a house on the other side. Because that's how they are taught to draw in school. That's how I was taught when I was small and the tradition continues. There aren't much room reserved for imagination. The best way to let imagination loose is to draw a monster! Because there is no rule in drawing monsters! ....there should not be any rule in drawing! Period! Drawing is not about how to draw, is all about how to see.

Feeling Blue
I love blue and all shades of blue: cerulean, turquoise, azure, baby blue, celestial blue, cobalt, indigo, navy blue. In my dictionary "blue" means elated, calm, content, light as a cloud. Whoever associated blue with sadness must have been color blind, or never look up at a clear blue sky. It was a very blue weekend, I felt extremely blue-ish.

She Got Mail!
ACAD sent an email to let Dena know they accepted her for 2012-2013 academic year. NSCAD sent her a package via air mail: an acceptance letter, information for new students, a book of academic calendar & undergraduate book + a blue sticky note with personal scribble from the admission. If I were her I would definitely choose the one who took time to write. It's personal. I can't help it, I'm old school. Does your pastor send you a personal birthday card via mail? Mine does. Home sweet home.

Catch Of The Day #2
The other night, over chicken wings & sauteed green beans, I was sharing this and that with my teenage daughter when I saw her taking notes. I mentally jumped up and down and continued talking {Yay! She values something I say!} Then she showed me her notes. It was a caricature of me {Darn, there goes my words!}

Fossil Friday
Almost every kid love dinosaur...I think. I remember when Dena was in grade 2 she was mesmerized by dinosaur and entered a dino-phase in which all she drew was dinosaurs and all she watched was The Land Before Time. Everything remind me of Dena these days *sigh* I still can't believe she is graduating this year. Time sure flies when you are having fun. Just like last Friday.
In language art Grade 2 made a dinosaur poem, in IT they used KidPix to illustrate their dinosaur poem to create a multimedia presentation. Some students chose to draw by hand and then scanned the hand drawing and color it in the computer. I love KidPix. Almost every kid love KidPix...I think.

Easy Does It
Two Sundays ago I had the privilege to volunteer for Kelas Belajar Oky, a volunteer based activities which teach children in slum areas around Jakarta. The narrow road to the place was being repaired so I had to take an ojek. No big deal, even though I'm scared to death of riding a motor cycle! I think the ojek guy kind of sensed my fear, because he engaged in a nice conversation with me. I admired the way he maneuvered a wooden plank over big ditch and narrow pathway of someone's backyard. I felt like I was part of a great circus act. I guess I haven't really overcome my motorcylophobia because the motor cycle only went about 15-20km/hr, I was not on a real street with thousands of other motorcycles and there was no traffic at all. *sigh* But I had really a great time making recycled frame with the children!

Hot Digitty Dog
My friend asked me to make a book about his dogs! I don't usually post work in progress but I'm too excited & thrilled! He gave me awesome pictures of his dogs and I have collected quotes about dog from the internet. I'm going to make him a handmade blank journal with his dog pictures. Here is my plan:
The photos are already beautiful as it is so I'm going to put the quote in the photo and play around with different fonts. Or maybe I can turn some of the photos into different style of famous artist (Warhol, Lichtenstein). And I'm working with Egy the wonder boy; he is doing the illustration for the book cover.
