Sound Advice

I'm not much of a talker. When I go to a print shop I would usually just give a print guy my file and give instructions of how I want things to be done. But today I took a friend's advice about preserving 'budaya ramah' as a proud Indonesian. I started to make small talk with the print guy. I chit chat about this and that, made inquiries here and there. In return the guy made my print first priority and I didn't have to wait for a long time. He even handed me the print himself instead of putting it on a pick up counter. Yay!

Christmas Enterprise

One lovely afternoon in a quiet restaurant. All staff wear either a rain deer headband or a santa hat. An over-friendly waiter offered a special Christmas menu. A brochure about Christmas hampers on every table. And it's only 22nd of November. Sigh.

Book Keeper

After two weeks of Mac Diet I lost plenty of blogger's block. My notebook saved me from deprivation of right brain nourishment. It's full of notes, stories, sketches, doodles, gibberish and well-thought nonsense. I should be on holiday for life.

Phone Books

Repurpose a phone booth into a mini library? An urban intervention project in New York by DUB, Department of Urban Betterment. You take one book and you replace it with another one. No supervision. What a neat idea! But that spells for disaster here in Jakarta, Indonesia. In my opinion it would never work. Would it?

Paper Doll

To play dress up most moms would probably get a store-bought costumes. There are mind boggling selections of costumes out there. I mean why would go through all that trouble, right? But this awesome mom understands that there are a lot of learning opportunities in creative play: investigating, observing, planning, measuring, inventing, figuring out how to turn paper to dress. Their websiteInstagram are oh so adorable!

Food Play

"Don't play with your food!" that's what I always told Dena. I thought it was a pretty decent rule until I stumble upon Eatzybitzy, Samantha Lee's blog. I bet this awesome mom always encourage her kids to play with their food. The thing moms do for their kids is unbelievable! Dena, forget my stupid rule, wanna play with food? :-)

Mental Note

We all have issue. That's the first sentence I read when I open the first page of this journal. I count the pages to make sure I have enough space to talk about all my issues. When I arrive on the last page this is what it says. It's not your fault. Laughing Out Loud. Apparently I don't have issues, I just need some tissues. Tears from laughing myself off.

Beautiful Mess

Finally! I found a cool interactive book by Keri Smith in a grown up section of a book store. I love her definition of "mistake": Happenings or occurence by which the creator does not have complete control over the final outcome (end result) that result in conclusions the creator did not predict. We might also call them "experiments". A book that encourage readers to make a mess. I think everyone who grew up being told to color within the lines, or to draw and color objects in a certain ways need to do the activities in this book to jump start their right brain. Go ahead make a mess. You'll feel better.

Haunted

I wish Christine would choose the Phantom over Raoul. One love. One lifetime. Pain and anguish can make him do terrible things but he just wants to be loved. Gaston Leroux is a French journalist and a mystery novel writer who is overshadowed by various film and stage adaptation of his book, Le Fantôme de l'Opéra. Did you know the book was very poorly sold in his life time? Truly phantomed.

Dog Happy

Waiting with a crowd to cross an intersection at Orchard road, Singapore. Feeling rather blah. A guy squirmed his way to the front, turned around  and held up high a sign that says "Smile!" So I did. Then he turned the sign over and it says "...you have a free date!" Oops! So I did. Best date ever. LOL. The thing people do to be blessing for others for no other reason than just because they can. No hidden agenda. No expectations. Love it! When was the last time I make a total stranger smile?

A Card & A Date :-)

Put My Foot Down

Have you ever wanted to say something to someone but words escape you and you just don't know what to say, how to say, and when to say? Worry no more. Just go to bureau of communication and express your feelings, premonitions, intuitions or whatever you want to call it in a clever way. "Let that which be unsaid be said." Love this!

Ariah

Sad story. Colossal stage. Seats are not numbered. Breathtaking lighting. Long way walk to the entrance. Colorful ensemble. Tiny multimedia screen. Fabulous merchandising. Hot weather. Energetic dance numbers. Wall's jingle. Beautiful composition. Ruthless traffic. Awesome friend. I love Jakarta! What's next Vinda?

Painted Wallet

I adore children's drawings. There is something delightful about a child's doodle. I was in a little store in Bali when I spotted this pouch with a whimsical drawing on it. I just had to have it. When the lady told me the price I almost cancelled my purchase but then I saw the tag. Painted wallet. Bali Street Kids Project. I am sold.

Traffic Jam

I love handmade items. Anything not mass produced is a product of love and passion. Kou Cuisine is a little heaven in Ubud, Bali. Their little store is so adorable & charming. Their handmade jams are so delightful. Mango. Passion Fruit & Tangerine. Grape & Buni. Pineapple & Guava. Strawberry & Banana. Apple Cinamon. Milk Caramel.

Little Things She Needs

When was the last time someone give me a doll? Must be decades ago. I can't believe it still gives me such joy after all these years. Thank you Ibu Doris. You are so sweet.

Fun Theory

A site from VW dedicated to a theory that something as simple as fun can change people's behavior for the better. My kind of theory. Let's play! Applicable to all areas of life. :-)

Negative Calendar

I love negative space. It made my dominant left brain stuttered. When I look at negative space of an object (that is the empty space that surround an object) my left brain get confused because it is unable to give me information. Giving my right brain freedom to interpret things in shapes and lines. Can you see the numbers on this calendar? It reminds me of the face vase. Do you see the vase first or the two faces first?

A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed

A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become but gently allows you to grow, and most importantly gives you cool journal once in a while :-) Thank you Ira!
