Little Lights
Well sometimes the sun shines on
Other people's houses and not mine.
Some days the clouds paint the sky all gray
And it takes away my summertime.
Somehow the sun keeps shining upon you,
While I struggle to get mine.
If there's a light in everybody,
Send out your ray of sunshine.
{Sunshine Song by Jason Mraz}
Thank you grade 6 for sending your ray of sunshine my way :'-)

Outtitude
Give any 2-5yr old child a blank paper to draw, and most of them will fearlessly start drawing without missing a blink, completely unaware of the imperfection of their drawing. Give any 6-12yr old child a blank paper to draw, and most of them will be intimidated by the brightness & the cleanness of the paper, they will stare at the paper for quite some time, approach it cautiously and start to draw, very much aware of the imperfection of their drawing.
Take any child outside with color chalks and ask them to draw on a hard surface, they run with excitement and start drawing without missing a blink, completely embrace the imperfection of their drawing. What is it about the outdoor that boost such attitude?

Portfolio Week
How
did the dinosaur extinct? Researched on theories why dinosaur extinct
and create a multimedia presentation for a grade 2 audience. That was
the task for grade 5. I usually give guidelines for the format and the content for a project, but this time feeling a bit adventurous I let my students to decide what format they want to use & the content of their presentation.
Sekar & Angel turned their research into a story, and drew the illustrations in Kidpix, and used Kidpix SlideShow for their presentation. Click here to read their story. Maura & Rania turned their research into a non-fiction story and drew the illustrations in Kidpix, and used PowerPoint for their presentation. Click here to read their story. I should be more adventure-ish.

180 Degree Tuesday
My mom was hospitalized after her blood pressure plunged to 70/50. Her latest stat: 100/70, a bit drowsy, but stabilized. My daughter received an email she has been waiting for: ECUAD accepted her for 2012/2013 academic year! Her latest stat: grinning ear to ear, hyper, but stabilized.
